Child Support
Both parents are responsible for the support of their children under Georgia Law. In 2007, the Georgia legislature modified the Georgia child support guidelines. The guidelines provide that each of the parties’ income must be considered as part of the calculation. The calculation also includes several other factors including a party’s support obligations for other children, expenses paid for the children such as day care and medical insurance, whether one of the parties has extraordinarily high income, or whether one of the parties has earning potential not reflected by his/her current earning. The calculations are complicated and can be presented to a court in many different ways by someone with the appropriate experience.
